Dr. Gearheart’s Information Letters

This letter was emailed to you on April 6, 2022 and contains valuable instructions about preparing for your trip to Italy and getting ready for our program.  The letter is here for your reference.

Letter #2 was sent April 28 is here.

Letter #3 was sent May 9 and is here.

Your solo preference

THIS TASK IS COMPLETE.

Question 1: please respond by Monday April 4. We are asking you select your preference for your solo performance – choose between an opera aria or a musical theater solo. We will make every attempt to assign repertoire according to your preference.

THANK YOU ALL FOR SPECIFYING YOUR SOLO PREFERENCE.

Your travel itinerary

You should arrive in Verona, Italy no earlier than Friday June 24, and must be there by the afternoon on Sunday June 26.  Our program begins Sunday evening.
You should depart no earlier than Monday July 18, and no later than Tuesday July 19.

If you arrive at the Verona airport (Verona Villafranca/Valerio Catullo, airport code VRN) or the Verona Porta Nuova train station, we will pick you up and bring you to our Residence, where we all live and where our classes are held. If you fly into another airport in Italy, you will need to connect to Verona via plane or train.

Question 2: please fill in your travel details as soon as possible.  We will update this with a firm deadline in the near future.  Note: if the travel details form does not work for you, please send your itinerary to Monica Ricci.

PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR TRAVEL PLANS AND SHARE THOSE DETAILS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Your sacred music selection

THIS TASK IS COMPLETE.  You should upload the music for your sacred music selection to the Google Drive so that the accompanists can begin studying the pieces.

You will find a list of sample recordings of these sacred music selections here.

Question 3: please select your first and second choice for the sacred music piece you will prepare for and work on during our program.  Please respond as soon as possible and no later than April 25.  You do not need to memorize your sacred music pieces; you may work from the music.

Sacred music repertoire is an important part of the Opera Viva curriculum. You will work with Dr. Madelyn Gearheart in class on a sacred music piece. Unlike in previous years, we are not planning a formal sacred music concert this summer, but there may be other opportunities for you to perform this piece in Verona.
